hi guys,

hope you all are doing great. I just picked up a model T for doing some free-lance writing because of the excellent keyboard-- though I LOVE classic computing I am primarily a writer. I stumbled upon this video on transferring files via Virtual T
which seems like the least complicated process other than acquiring a "NAD box". But the video shows transfer of a .ba program TO the model T, instead of transferring a .do file to Virtual T. I have the null modem cable and even the usb converter as in this video, but i also discovered the laptop I am planning on using (Windows XP) has a Com Port. Can someone kindly walk me through the process of transferring my document to a windows computer in The Simplest Terms possible? Though my very first computer was a Tandy desktop I just missed the learning curve for mastering Basic.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick!
It's a tricky process, hence hard to simplify (and I haven't
done it for a while, plus about to board a plane and head back
to Australia), but what's the reason for uploading *to*
Virtual T?
Welcome, and cheers.

thanks for the advice so far you guys! There is really no reason I need to use Virtual T I just assumed transfers between the actual m-100 and the virtual T emulator would be rather straight forward from what I had watched in the video I linked. Once again I am a complete novice so I understand that the learning curve is going to be pretty steep for me. Would using hyperterminal be another option worth pursuing or will the laddiealpha route be simpler? I am coming from typing on an alphasmart and think that the m100 keyboard and ruggedness of the unit is far worth the extra trouble for text transfers.

Depends. If you have a DOS on your M100, then a TPDD emu (laddiealpha,
mcomm) is the easiest. If you don't have a DOS, then a straight test
upload to a terminal program saves you the RAM in your M100. Absolute
easiest option is to get TS-DOS in ROM -- usually with a REX module --
and then use a TPDD emu to transfer files from TS-DOS on the 100.
That's what I do. REX will set you back ~$65, but it also effectively
increases the storage capacity of your 100 by 16-fold since it allows
you to save RAM images to flash and swap between them on the fly.
